The Island of Maui offers some of the best golf courses on the globe. A few of them even host events for major tournaments, including the prestigious PGA TOUR. Without further ado, please join me as we count down the best golf courses in Maui!
The Plantation Course at Kapalua Bay
Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, this astounding 7,411-yard course ranks as the #1 golf course in Hawaii. As it sits right on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains near Kapalua Bay, this course offers some stunning scenery and the most dramatic views of the ocean. The Plantation Course is home to the PGA TOUR’s Tournament of Champions.
King Kamehameha Golf Club
Coming in at the #2 spot on our list is Maui’s only 18-hole private golf club, the King Kamehameha Golf Club. Seated on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains (750 feet above sea level), this amazing course offers stunning views of the mountains and both nearby coasts. It’s one of the most peaceful settings for a golf course that one could hope to find.
Gold Course at Wailea Golf Club
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 1994, this 18-hole course spreads out over a whopping 7,000 yards. This course is noted for having been the host of the Wendy’s Champions Skins Game.
Ka’anapali Kai Course
If you’re looking for a laid-back, fun, and scenic Maui golf course, then look no further than this highly accessible course. In 1967, the 18 holes were initially laid out over 6,388 yards by architect Arthur Jack Snyder. Since then, the course has gone through significant changes and was re-designed by architect Robin Nelson in 2005.
Emerald Course at Wailea Golf Club
Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed this unique course back in 1994. It is an 18-hole course that plays at a par-72 and offers some exciting challenges. Generous fairways, various teeing grounds, and a few forced carries are some of the reasons why this course is one of Maui’s most popular golf courses.
The Bay Course at Kapalua
The Bay Course at Kapalua is beautifully landscaped and has some stunning views of the Island of Molokai off in the distance. This 18-hole course sits on over 6,600 yards of land and plays at a par-72.
Designed back in 1975 by famed architects Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane, the Bay Course is Kapalua’s original course. Over the decades it has stood the test of time, hosting over 20 major professional tournaments and some of the best players in the history of golf.
The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course
Sitting just off of the tourist track and not far from the Kahului airport, this course comes at a terrific value.
Designed by architect Robin Nelson in 1999, The Dunes at Maui Lani offers an 18-hole, links-style course that spans 6,423 yards of verdant land. As you might have gathered from the name, the course is peppered with dunes at every corner, offering up a challenge at each hole.
Pukalani Country Club
In the Hawaiian language, Pukalani means “entrance to Heaven,” and there couldn’t be a more fitting name for this course. Since its establishment in 1980, Pukalani Country Club has enjoyed an unmatched location on Mount Haleakala. The course sits at 1,100 feet above sea level and provides the most stunning views of Upcountry Maui and the Pacific Ocean.
Blue Course at Wailea Golf Club
The Blue Course is one of three first-rate golf courses at the Wailea Golf Club. This traditional resort course was designed by Arthur Jack Snyder and, in fact, it was the first course built at this club back in 1972. Similar in size to the Royal Ka’anapali, the Blue Course stretches to a length of 6,765 yards and offers 18 holes.
Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course at the Ka’anapali Resort
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Royal Ka’anapali has been a Maui mainstay since it first opened back in 1962. This exquisite 18-hole course runs about 6,700 yards. It stretches out along the West Maui coast right at sea level before winding its way up to the foothills of the West Maui Mountains.
